Fairfield John (Van) Vanier died peacefully in Nanaimo Seniors' Village on February 2nd, 2006 at the age of 91 years. Van started work at Great Lakes Forest Products with the startup of the A Kraft Mill in 1965 and retired in 1979. He moved frequently during his working career, but Thunder Bay became his home for 15 years. After retirement, Van and Sylvette moved to Fort Erie, then a brief stint in Winnipeg, before settling on Vancouver Island in 1989. He is survived by: his loving wife Sylvette; children Vivian (Bob Bodnar), Jack (Christine Erickson) and Ralph; grandchildren Kevin, Andy and Lizzie Vanier.
