Husband of Mary Spencer

(database)
Paul Vanier, 51, was a taxicab driver. He was murdered by two teens age 17 and 19 when they requested a ride from him. They stole his money and gold watch and threw his body in the Mohawk River. They later confessed to the crime.
A reward was offered for finding his body and Arthur E. Walrath found the body of the deceased and received a check for $500. Mr. Walrath indicated that he would divide the reward with Motorcycle Policeman Leonidas Landry of Cohoes. The policeman assisted in bringing the body to shore.
The funeral of Mr. Vanier was held May 5, 1931 from his late residence of the home of his sister, Mrs. Fred Sherrard, 41 Congress St., Cohoes and then from St. Josephâs church where a solemn requiem high mass was celebrated. Rev. Charles H. Dolan of Northampton, MA, a nephew of the deceased, was celebrant. The church was filled and a crowd of onlookers watched the home as the casket was carried out.
Paul Vanier had been separated from his wife for more than 20 years. She is said to be living in Canada. Mr. Vanier had resided with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sherrard. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Cropsey, 32 White St.
Letters of administration in Paul Vanierâs estate were issued to his sister, Mrs. Julia Sherrard, of Cohoes. The estate, valued at $1,000 in personal property was left entirely to his daughter, Celia Vanier Cropsey, 41 Congress St.
