Anna M. Vanier, 83, of Epping Street, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Mercy Hospital. She was born in Portland, Feb. 20, 1922, a daughter of Bello and Alphonsina Orlandello Amabile. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.

Anna M. Vanier

PORTLAND
Anna M. Vanier, 83, of Epping Street, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at Mercy Hospital.

She was born in Portland, Feb. 20, 1922, a daughter of Bello and Alphonsina Orlandello Amabile. She attended local schools graduating from Portland High School in 1940. She and her late twin sister Philomena Ennis and her late sister Mary Millington were professional singers and dancers, entertaining serviceman during World War II in the Greater Portland area and they also worked together as professional hairdressers. Mrs. Vanier worked for several years at Amabile's Jewelers.

She had been a communicant of St. Dominic's Catholic Church for many years where she was a member of the Mother's Club and the Daughters of Isabella. Recently she attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Vanier looked forward every Sunday to the large family dinners, taking care of her grandchildren, horseracing and playing cards.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Philip J. Vanier; a daughter, Patricia A. Apon and her husband Joseph of Portland; two sons, Dennis P. Vanier and his companion Beverly Nye of Falmouth, and Thomas J. Vanier and his companion Maria Fusco of Windham; two brothers, Frank Amabile and Nicholas Amabile both of Portland; six grandchildren, Jessica Harnden, Angela Vanier, Anna Apon, Maria Apon, Pasquale Apron and Adam Vanier, and a great-grandson, Joel Harnden.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 4-8 p.m. from the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
