Avis de décès (Obituary)

Armand P. Vanier

1918-2012

MADAWASKA - Armand P. Vanier, 94, passed peacefully Dec. 31, 2012, with devoted family at his side. He was born June 25, 1918, in Portland, the oldest child of Emile and Eva Vanier.

Armand was a proud veteran of the Army Air Corps with distinguished and decorated service as a radio operator throughout the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Among his service honors were the Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a personal commendation from former President Harry Truman. A past commander of American Legion Post No. 147, Madawaska, Armand enjoyed the camaraderie, fellowship and activities offered therein. A longtime employee of Fraser Papers, Madawaska, Armand performed a number of functions in the company until his retirement in 1980. Armand lived life fully and was extremely active for most of his life. He loved golf, swimming, bowling and dancing, not to mention a great game of cribbage or cards. Always free with his love, wit and engaging smile, he had a remarkable ability to raise the spirits of all those he encountered regardless of their role, status or capacity. He will be missed and mourned by those who knew and loved him throughout his long life.

In addition to his parents, Armand was predeceased by two loving wives, Eva Thibodeau and Olivine Charest; brothers, Eldon and Paul Vanier; and sister, Blanche "Sis" Gagne. He is survived by his brother, John Vanier of Caribou; and sisters, Eva Harmon of Jericho, Vt., and Corinne Keenan of Sacramento, Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews, and their families. His friend, Jeannine Bourgoin, also occupied a special place in his heart throughout his later years. The family thanks Armand's caregivers at Highview Manor and Country Village Estates, who gave him such great care, respect and love.

In respect of his wishes, no public services will be held at this time. A service of remembrance will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Armand are asked to make donations in his memory to American Legion Post No. 147, Madawaska, 353 Main St., Madawaska, ME 04756. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home, Madawaska. For online condolences, please visit
