Text from Jane Adeline Pecor, herself:
- Jane Adeline Pecor (1873 - 1967) m. Charles Julian Vannier, 1868 - 1926), a carefree kind of girl who had rather laugh than cry, seemed to get along well with people, liked books, music, fun, and life in general. I started my housekeeping at 17.
- Charles Julian Vannier, my what a handsome man he was. When I first knew him, he had a heavy black moustache (as all the boys in the gay nineties did), black curly hair, clear grey eyes, and fine dark complexion, beautiful teeth and a charming smile. Didn't smile often, but when he did, it meant something. Cared nothing for social life but had an assortment of friends in every walk of life. He was just as friendly to a street sweeper as a bank president.
- There wasn't any wedding march or hired caterers or any of that, but friends and neighbors helped with the wedding supper. More than a hundred guests sat at the wedding supper with us. Not ice cream and cake, but a regular honest-to-goodness feast. Well when my husband-to-be arrived at the house, the first thing he wanted was shoe blacking as his shoes were dull from walking in the snow. It was snowing softly and lovely that night. Well, I got the blacking and I guess I waited on him from that time. He was a bridegroom any girl could be proud of in his cutaway coat grey pants, white shirt, and white satin tie. For myself, I wore my graduating dress, an embroidered white mull with white silk sash. We were young and happy that night. We didn't take any wedding trip, but went housekeeping in a furnished house owned by my brother-in-law, Wilfred. It was grand to me to be able to do as I pleased in my own house with no one to advise or correct me.
